The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) has provided opportunities to utilize classroom skills from my undergraduate experience, coupled with the deep-seated leadership and discipline I received in the Army. These opportunities have set me up for continued success.

Support our veteran and military-connected students on campus.

Where Funds Go

Despite the use of GI Bill benefits, a number of student veterans need additional financial support to complete their degrees at Syracuse University. Many times, they are required to take out loans to cover the cost of their education and, despite taking on a full academic load, must work full time to support their families.

The Veteran Legacy Fund provides unrestricted support aimed at shouldering the burden for these students, providing much needed scholarship and programmatic support.

Every Gift Counts. Every Donor Matters. Make a Difference Today!

The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs at Syracuse University has created the Veteran Legacy Fund to benefit all programs that support our veteran and military-connected students on campus, including:

  • Scholarships: For many veterans and military-connected students, affordability remains a significant barrier to attending SU or completing a degree, even with VA Educational Benefits and ROTC tuition assistance.
  • Organizations: The Student Veterans Organization and The Veteran Employee Affinity Group both offer programming and resources to create a broader sense of community on campus and in the region.
  • Programs: Student Veteran Support Services, Student Veteran Emergency Relief Assistance, and Military and Veteran Cultural Competency Training are some of the programs we sponsor.
  • Ceremonies and honors: From the Chancellor’s Review of the Army and Air Force ROTC cadets to the numerous ceremonies conducted during the week of Veterans Day, we seek to commemorate and honor the veteran and military community.

All gifts to the Veteran Legacy Fund are meaningful and provide unrestricted support, allowing us to be flexible in our approach to supporting veteran and military-connected students.

A pledge of $1,000 annually for five years is the baseline level of support for membership in the Veteran Legacy Fund Leadership Circle, launching in fall 2017. The charter membership phase is now open. To learn more, contact Dan Bateman, OVMA director of development, at 315.744.6711 or dtbatema@syr.edu.

The Veteran Legacy Fund exists with the sole purpose of providing the best Syracuse University experience possible for those veteran and military-connected students wishing to call SU home.
