Albany (Capital District)
Welcome Capital District Alumni!
Are you an SU alum who is looking to meet fellow alums in the area? If so, be sure to join the Capital District club! It's only $20 for an annual membership!
Upcoming events appear below as soon as they are confirmed.
Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Syracuse University Alumni Club of the Capital District. Getting involved is a great opportunity to meet alumni and stay connected to SU.
Dues-paying members receive invitations to all events held throughout the year, the opportunity to purchase single-game tickets to select SU sporting events before they go on sale to the general public, and other benefits. Annual dues are the only source of the club's operating budget and are essential for funding and initiating the various events we sponsor.
Annual membership dues are only $20 for alumni and for families, and $25 for affiliates (non-graduates that are "friends of SU"). Membership for the current graduating class is free. You can join by completing a membership application and sending it along with a check made payable to the "SU Alumni Club."
To request a membership application or if you have other questions regarding membership, please contact Ashley Ennis at email@example.com.

One of the greatest accomplishments of the Syracuse University Alumni Club of the Capital District has been the establishment and continued financial support of scholarships providing financial assistance to outstanding SU students from the Capital District.
The scholarships are funded by donations from generous club members and are administered by the University. Recipients are recognized as "Capital District Scholars".
Capital District Scholars proudly represent our area as students at SU and have gone on to be successful in some impressive careers, including a cancer researcher, an officer in the U.S. Army stationed in Germany, a producer of a television show on The Learning Channel, a senior environmental engineer, a novelist and writer, and an investment banker on Wall Street, among others.
The Club continues to focus on providing financial assistance to SU students from the Capital District and is working to benefit even more students. The 2007-2008 academic year was the first time that three students from the Capital District will be receiving club-sponsored scholarships.
While attending SU, many alumni received some form of financial aid or scholarships. Making a financial contribution to a club-scholarship fund is a great way to give back to SU. Please consider investment in outstanding SU students by making a contribution to a club-sponsored scholarship fund.
Donors are identified in the following donor levels based on the amount they contribute:
Donors - $25 to $49
- Bronze Level Donors - $50 to $74
- Silver Level Donors - $75 to $99
- Gold Level Donors - $100 to $249
- Benefactors - $250 and up
Also, for a four year annual contribution of $500 or more, you can sponsor an additional scholarship through the club. For more information, please contact Lynne Samuel '68 at (518) 765-4550.
To make a donation, please send your contribution to SU Alumni Club of the Capital District, P.O. Box 12782, Albany, New York 12212. Checks should be made payable to the scholarship fund: "Gentilcore Scholarship Fund". Donations are fully tax-deductible.
The Hugo J. Gentilcore '47 Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Hugo J. Gentilcore '47 Memorial Scholarship Fund has been awarded each year since 1989. The Gentilcore Scholarship is one of only a few endowed scholarships founded by a local SU alumni club. Due to the large value it has reached, the scholarship was split and awarded to two students annually beginning in the 2007-2008 academic year.
The scholarship honors the late Hugo J. Gentilcore, who was instrumental in restarting the SU Alumni Club of the Capital District in 1982 and served as president from 1982-83 and on the board until his death in 1990. Mr. Gentilcore served in the Army Air Forces as a lieutenant and navigator during World War II and graduated from SU with a bachelor's degree in public administration in 1947 and a master's from SU's Maxwell School in 1950. He and his future wife Rita Lapenna '43 met as students at SU. He retired in 1977 as chief budget examiner for the state Division of the Budget in Albany, where he worked since 1947. Mr. Gentilcore was past a trustee of LaSalle School for Boys and served on the board of directors of the national SU Alumni Association.
About our club
Syracuse University alumni have a rich tradition in the Capital District, dating back to the founding of The Albany Alumni Association of Syracuse University in 1901. Four additional clubs were subsequently formed in the area, including The Schenectady Alumnae Club (1916), The Schenectady Club of Syracuse Alumni (1917) and the Syracuse University Alumni Club of Amsterdam (1930). After a period of inactivity, the current Syracuse University Alumni Club of the Capital District was established in 1982.
Approximately 5,000 alumni live in the area and approximately 350 undergraduates from the region attend SU each year. Activities include a variety of social, recreational, cultural, educational, and community service events throughout the year.
The Club has supported scholarships for outstanding SU students from the Capital District each year since 1989 and support for these scholarships continues to grow. The 2007-2008 academic year will be the first time that three students from the Capital District will be receiving club-sponsored scholarships.
The Club continues to experience a great deal of success. Syracuse University recognized our efforts in 2000 with the Alumni Club of the Year Award. In 2001, we received the Alumni Program of the Year Award for our involvement in a fundraiser for the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. In more recent year, two of our club presidents have received prestigious awards from the University, including the Outstanding Young Alumni Award (2004) and the Melvin A. Eggers Senior Alumni Award (2005).
With several well-attended events each year, we remain one of the most active SU alumni clubs in the country. In recent years, the Club has continued its most popular events and successfully added a number of new ones. Popular events held each year include the New Student Send Off, SU Game Watching Party, National Orange Day Community Service Event, and the Annual Meeting & Dinner, among others. Popular events include the New Graduate & Alumni Social Mixer.
Syracuse University alumni are proud of our rich tradition in the Capital District and the great Alma Mater that brings us all together.
SEEKING NEW BOARD MEMBERS: We are in the process of expanding our board of directors and are looking for skilled and dedicated alumni that are interested in serving. We are particularly looking for members with experience in finances or accounting, communications, technology, fund development, and events planning. If you are interested in being considered for the board or nominating someone, please contact Cassandra Anderson at email@example.com.
Club members are welcome to attend meetings of the Board of Directors, typically held at a location in Albany. If you would like to attend and need information on when and where our meets are scheduled for, contact Cassandra Anderson.
